AMD touts Ryzen 9 9950X3D as the best gaming CPU

AMD launched new processors at CES 2025, AMD Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D for desktop PCs and AMD Ryzen Z2, and AMD Ryzen 9000 mobile processors for portable devices.

In the press release, AMD declared without hesitation that AMD Ryzen 9950X3D is world’s best 16-core processor for gamers and content creators. Everyone seems to agree since it features the 2nd generation AMD 3D V-Cache technology. After Ryzen 9800X3D stormed the gaming desktop market, it’s only natural that the new Ryzen 9950X3D will be the next hit for AMD and the popular choice for extreme gamers out there who strive for the best performance possible.

AMD’s new chip also tops the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU in performance. Although it has less cores than the Intel CPU, it features almost three times more cache and AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology massively improves the latency in games which brings it way ahead.

Next to the new king Ryzen 9950X3D, AMD also released the runner up Ryzen 9900X3D which boasts 12 cores and 24 threads with 140 MB cache and the same 3D V-Cache to melt in the game latency. We don’t know anything yet about the prices of the new chips, but AMD promises to release them on the market in the first quarter of 2025.

Along the desktop chips, AMD also announced the release of the Ryzen Z2 Series gaming processors for handheld devices. The top chip from the line is AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, that features 8 Zen 5 cores and 16 threads, along with the RDNA 3.5 architecture-powered graphics. We don’t know yet which is the first lucky handheld console that will sport this new mobile powerhouse but it really looks promising already.

The AMD processor lineup is really heating up the fight with Intel in 2025 and we also hope that it will also help Microsoft achieve the IDC predictions to increase the Windows 11 adoption.

In the meantime, what do you think about the new AMD Ryzen 9950X3D? Are you planning a hardware upgrade soon? Let us know in the comments below.
